Eid ul-Adha   Eid ul-Adha, also known as Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the two major Islamic holidays celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It is considered the holier of the two Eids and commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son, as an act of obedience to God's command. However, just as Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son, God intervened and provided a ram as a substitute sacrifice. Eid ul-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the twelfth and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The exact date of the holiday varies each year because the Islamic calendar is based on the sighting of the moon. The celebrations last for four days, with the actual day of Eid being the culmination. During Eid ul-Adha, Muslims gather for special prayers at mosques or designated outdoor locations.
